Youth Settlement Program

As part of its commitment towards its mission, HMC in partnership with HDSB and HCDSB developed the Youth Settlement Program for newcomer families funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada:

• to accelerate the settlement process
• help families stay connected with schools
• promote student achievement.

Youth Settlement Workers (YSW) will:

• facilitate communication and mutual understanding between the school staff and the newcomer students and their families
• hold individual meetings with newcomer families and provide services in a supportive and culturally proficient manner
• organize orientation sessions on various topics upon the Principal’s approval and according to the needs of each school
• explain expectations
• enhance diverse and multicultural understanding between the school staff and newcomer communities
